Kissing Bandits Interview: Juliet Braddock “Fire and Ice”

Kissing Bandits Welcomes Juliet Braddock

1. Tell us about your first kiss?
Drew and Maxine’s first kiss was rather awkward. You see, she spilled champagne all over him at a party that she had to attend for work. Of course, since Drew was Maxine’s teenage crush, she had to carefully hide from him all night…until he stalked her on the balcony. It was the SoHo Grand Hotel’s penthouse suite. All of New York City twinkled below them. And just as he captured Maxine in his arms and held her in his stronghold while he kissed her breathless, it began to rain…
2. Share one line from your story. What do you love about it?
“This whole experience left her without words, yet clamoring to tell him how she felt closer to him than ever.” In Fire and Ice, recently engaged Maxine and Drew engage in waxplay for the first time. Maxine truly embraces her submission in this story, and she proves to Drew that she trusts him implicitly. That’s what Domination and submission is all about—trust—and Maxine exemplifies at this point in their relationship.
3. What is the biggest risk you’ve ever taken?
My biggest risk in life was moving from a very small town to New York City. Here, I’ve built a career in communications all on my own, and I’m so proud of my accomplishments outside of publishing. New York has also served as my inspiration for my writing. On every corner, something is happening—there’s a story to tell. So my biggest risk was truly my greatest reward.

Dom Persusions CoverWhat happens when a blizzard immobilizes Manhattan on Valentine’s Day…and a sassy little sub is stuck in her Dungeon with her beloved Dom? With candlelight and a roaring fire to keep them warm on this frigid afternoon, sparks fly between Maxine and Drew as he attempts to cool her down with a bit of tantalizing tenderness…

Louboutin heels in one hand and the silky little garment in her other, she made her way to the full-length mirror to slink into her Valentine’s Day outfit. Once she’d pulled the panties on, the straps that crossed over her tummy were relatively easy to maneuver around. With bows fastened at the neck and hips, she felt like a giant Valentine’s Day gift, all wrapped in crimson just for her Kind Sir.

Mustering her poise, she made her way back toward the tiny kitchen. However, just as she began to stir the chocolate sauce, the first of the three locks on the door turned.

Juliet Braddock 2Maxine stopped suddenly, frozen in time. She hadn’t even picked up her clothes yet! Oh, Drew was going to be one Cranky Sir in about a minute.

Folding his hands together, he merely shook his head as he looked around.

“You know I don’t like to punish you on holidays, Almost Mrs. Mack…”

Protest, and he’ll do it! she thought to herself. “But the snow…and Zabar’s was packed…and I wanted to…I just…” She noticed that her voice always seemed to rise an octave when they played.

“What the hell is going on here? This isn’t your bedroom back at the old townhouse, Maxine!” He kicked her bra and sent it scudding across the floor. Through his gruff, though, Maxine could see that smile of approval as he appraised her new little outfit. In his mind, Drew was already unwrapping those bows. “Now, I come here…expecting a little Valentine’s Day release with my fiancé. There’s a mess on the floor. And dammit…she’s not in position yet.”

Turning carefully in those damn shoes, Maxine rolled her shoulders back, the tassels swinging to and fro as she swiveled.

“But I…you…we have…”

“Uh-uh-uh!” Drew raised his hand as he crossed the room toward her. “Excuses are not accepted, and you should know that by now.”

In one swift move, he’d clasped her hands in his and held them above her head as he pinned her body against the cold stainless steel refrigerator. “Should I deny you on this frigid, snowy afternoon?”

Now was her chance to spill the beans and send her punishment into overdrive. “I can do that myself, Kind Sir,” she insisted. “Without touching myself.”

Raising a brow, his pride swelled. Such a perfect submissive was she.

“Oh, yeah, Sassypants?” he challenged as he pulled his hands away to pluck at her straps. “Show me…”

Maxine took one very slow, deep breath into her lungs. Wrapping her fingers around the refrigerator door handle, she opened her green eyes wide and held his gaze as he watched her. Already, she could feel her clit twitching beneath that damp wisp of satin that covered her, and her nipples throbbed against those little pasties.

“Uhhhhhhh…” she groaned.

However, Drew couldn’t resist closing just a bit of distance between them, fearing she’d collapse and hurt herself as orgasm took hold. Placing a hand on each side of her, he was ready to catch her, just in case.

“Tell me what you’re thinking right now, Maxine.”

“I’m thinking…ohh, I’m on my knees, Sir…”

“And what are you doing in your little fantasy?”

“Sucking you…sucking you off, Sir…and I’m… oh, fuck…!

Without warning, she gripped his shoulder as she kicked her heel, scraping it against the hardwood floor. His face was so close, so intense, as she writhed before him but not against him. Drew hadn’t laid a single finger on her, yet orgasm consumed her as her body just shook with the shocks of oblivion.

Drew’s thoughts were likewise awhirl. Her sexual appetite knew no boundaries. Maxine’s need to please him—and to please herself—astounded him. Seeing her shuddering and screaming when all he’d done was simply walk in the door and give her a mild scolding nearly reduced him to ashes.

He fucking hated losing control with her, but he simply couldn’t resist slipping his hands between them to rip away those two little hearts from her nipples. He dipped his head to bite down and pulled one swollen little bud between his teeth.

“So help me, Maxine, if I come in my fucking jeans…you’re getting spanked until next Valentine’s D—”

Reality, however, struck him suddenly like a lightning bolt to a tree.

Fuckballs…

The power went out.

1. Tell us about your first kiss (novel or RL) When I was twelve, my first boyfriend took me out on the beach in North Carolina on a beautiful summer night and kissed me in the moonlight. Romance factor: 10. Kiss Factor: 2. It was our first time, after all!

2. Share one line from your story. What do you love about it? “This is how I am. I don’t know another way to be. But if that’s not what you need, then tell me how to be.” Okay, so that’s a few lines. I really like this part, because up until this point Damien has been fairly unyielding with Gwen. He wants to break through her emotional walls, but he worries he’s pushed her too hard. This is a softer, more insecure side of him that shows he cares more about her wellbeing than his own desire to have her.

3. What is the biggest risk you’ve ever taken? Quitting my PhD to write romance novels!

What is Broken about?

Dom Persusions CoverGwen may bartend at Dark Grove Plantation BDSM club, but she sure as hell doesn’t participate in the kinky acts going on around her. Not anymore. She’s been hurt too many times before.

But everything changes when sexy Dom Damien shows up at Dark Grove and locks his sights on her. He senses her submissive nature and is intrigued when she rebuffs his advances. Determined to take on the challenge, Damien resolves that Gwen will submit to him, no matter what it takes.

Can she resist the unbending Dom who is determined to help her heal? Or will she remain broken?

“Hello, Gwen.”

Julia SykesShe yelped in surprise, and the barstool she was holding clattered loudly to the floor.

No. Surely this wasn’t happening. He couldn’t be here. Taking a deep breath, she turned slowly. Her stomach dropped. Sure enough, there he was, striding across the bar, exuding that dominant aura that so disconcerted her. His masculine scent infused the air around her, tangling her thoughts.

“What…” she began shakily. “What are you doing here, Damien? We’re closed.”

“Gerald told me it’s okay for me to stay late and talk to you,” he countered smoothly.

He entered her personal space, and she tried to back away from him. But her lower back hit the bar behind her, blocking her escape. His strong arms braced on the polished wood on either side of her, hemming her in. She swallowed hard as she looked up into his black eyes, his expression unreadable.

“You can’t run this time,” he said softly. “I know you want me. You can sense this connection between us. Why are you denying it?”

Gwen didn’t respond. Her heart leapt into her throat, choking off her words. She didn’t have any to give him, anyway. She couldn’t do this, couldn’t let him in. If she did, he would surely rip another hole in her ravaged heart.

“Answer me,” he half-growled, his tone threatening. He seemed to grow impossibly taller, towering over her.

She quivered under his hard gaze, trembling in fear. Or was it a pleasurable shiver? She couldn’t deny his effect on her, the way his demanding nature threated to overwhelm her, to break her. And a part of her wanted that, wanted the release from the constant strain of concealing her needs. But she managed to shake her head weakly, refusing to open up to him and make herself vulnerable.

He leaned into her slowly, until his lips were at her ear. “You will yield to me, Gwen. I won’t allow you to run from me any longer. I know what you desire, even if you won’t admit it to yourself. You want to submit to me.”

Despite herself, Gwen couldn’t stifle a small groan at his words. Her panties were wet, her sex pulsing.

“I’m going to give you one chance,” he continued softly. “I won’t take you if you’re not willing. If you truly don’t want this, tell me now. Otherwise, there’s no going back.”

Oh, god. He was going to fuck her. Right here. What would he do to her? Did she want that?

More than anything. Surely it couldn’t hurt to give in just this once…?

She pursed her lips, resolving not to refuse him, although part of her brain was screaming at her that this was a mistake. She ignored it; her primal needs overcoming her fear.

Damien waited for the space of a few heartbeats. “Good girl.”

Kissing Bandits Interview: Jan Graham

Interview with Jan Graham

1. Tell us about your first kiss?

Dom Persusions CoverMy first kiss was in a cinema. I was about fifteen at the time. I’d noticed him as I sat down and obviously he noticed me as well. We flirted a bit and as soon as the lights went out and the movie started so did the kissing.

There was no romantic dialogue. He whispered “I want to kiss you” and I replied “Okay.” I don’t remember the name of the movie, or his name for that matter. I do remember the kiss. How hot it was, how horny it made me and how deliciously wicked I felt afterwards. For a girl raised in a very religious household and who liked to break the rules, it was a great first kiss.

2. Share one line from your story. What do you love about it?

“………Well, look where that ended.” Blake let the wry smile breach his lips as he leaned toward her, meeting her gaze with a determined stare. “Right back where you started, sitting across the table from a Dom who makes you so horny you can barely breathe.”

I love this line because this is the gotcha moment for Blake in the story. Susan has been denying her interest in him, in BDSM and suppressing her own needs where it comes to sex. Blake’s been so patient with her and this is a tipping point. It’s the first time Susan is forced to confront the truth of who she really is and what will make her happy.

3. What is the biggest risk you’ve ever taken?

God, too many risks to count in all areas of my life. Some turned out to be good others ended up being not so wise. If I had to pick one, then I’d say selling my house and moving away from everyone and everything I knew to be with the man I loved (my husband). The risk paid off and we were happy for many years.

Blurb for Submitting to Temptation

Jan Graham 2Accepting a position at her brother’s law firm seemed like a great way for Susan to get back on her feet after a nasty divorce. That was until she met junior partner, Blake Daniels, a man who personifies everything Susan ran away from when she left the BDSM scene years ago—Dominance. Blake is a patient man, and it’s a good thing he is because waiting for Susan Dean is driving him to distraction. Susan is a submissive, he’s sure of it, but getting her to admit that fact is harder than he envisioned. When Blake decides it’s time to make his move, Susan has no option but to admit her true nature and submit to his tempting ways.

Enjoy this excerpt of Submitting to Temptation by Jan Graham

As Susan rummaged through her purse, presumably looking for her house keys, he exited the car and walked around to open the passenger door. As he escorted her to the entry of her flat, located at the side of the Dean’s home, he resisted the urge to lower his hand from the small of her back onto her lushly rounded ass. She was definitely a woman who had a bottom designed for spanking and one fleshy enough to mark nicely with a few strikes of his cane.

“Thank you for driving me home.” Susan spoke nervously as she fumbled to get the key into the lock. “I’m fine to take it from here.”

Blake stood close behind her, intentionally crowding her toward the door. He reached his hand over her shoulder and placed it over hers, assisting her trembling hand to successfully slide the key into the lock. He then tightened his grip on her fingers, preventing her from turning the key. She braced her free hand on the frame of the door as he wrapped his arm around her waist and held her firmly against his body.

“Are you sure you wouldn’t like me to tuck you into bed and kiss you goodnight, Susan?” He whispered the words into her ear and felt a shudder run through her body as he exhaled a slow stream of warm breath to caress her neck.

Susan shook her head. “I can’t.”

“I know, I heard you tell Justin at the club. You’re not ready.” Blake ran his hand upward over her midriff before cupping her breast. He felt the tightened bud of her nipple through the fabric, and pressed it into his palm as he gently squeezed her flesh.

Her breathy moan encouraged him, as did her head falling back to rest on his shoulder, and her bottom pressing onto the erection beneath his trousers as she arched against him. He removed his hand from over hers and swiftly positioned it to cup her mound, pressing her skirt between her legs and pulling her harder against the stiffness between his legs. He pinched the peaked nipple beneath her clothing as she began to squirm against the hand between her legs.

“Blake, why are you…” the low moan that rose from within her caused his cock to flinch with demand. He’d made his point.

He moved both hands to rest firmly on her hips.

“I want you to remember who I am, Susan.” He ensured the tone of his voice was firm because he wanted her to know that he expected her to comply with his demand. “When you’re ready, I expect you to come for me, do you understand?”

“Yes.” Her breathless reply caused him to smile. As did the fact that she stood with her hands still braced against the door.

“That’s my good girl.” The sharp slap he placed on her ass as he prepared to walk away, caused her to squeal and spin around. The arousal in her eyes spoke an undeniable truth. “Yes, you like that don’t you?”

Susan didn’t need to say a word. He could see the answer written all over her horny body and her beautifully blushed face.

Kissing Bandits Interview: Doris O’Connor

Interview with Doris O’Connor

  1. Tell us about your first kiss?

Dom Persusions CoverI guess, you could say my first real kiss happened out of the blue with my then boss when I was 17. Yeah, I know, cliché or what. What can I say, we were at a works do, I had a few too many, and I had somewhat of a crush on him. He was older than me by a good ten years or so, and well, let’s just say it was a HAWT series of kisses on the dance floor. Nothing came of it, because the girlfriend I didn’t know he had turned up late, and that was the end of that, lol.

Still those kisses…. *fans self* 😉
2. Share one line from your story. What do you love about it?

Lukas Markz didn’t entertain notions of happily-ever-afters, ever, and he refused that thought to take hold. Regardless of what his gut was screaming at him, she could not be the one…could she?

I love it, because it’s a turning point in the story. They’re in the taxi on the way home, and it’s dawning on him that this woman is important to him.
3. What is the biggest risk you’ve ever taken?

Hmm, taking a chance on love, I guess. I’d been badly burned before I met hubby and had all but given up on men. We met on a blind date, and the rest is history. We’ll have been together 29 years in November. ❤

Blurb from Under His Protection

Jacqui Page doesn’t know where to look when her birthday surprise turns out to be a visit to the local BDSM club. Especially when she spots the one man she’s been secretively lusting after for months. Lukas Markz can’t believe his eyes when his shy-goody-two-shoes-next door neighbor turns up at his club dressed as every Dom’s wet dream. The silly girl has no idea what she’s up against. Just as well she’s under his protection. If only he could keep his hands off of her.

Enjoy this excerpt from Under His Protection by Doris O’Connor

Doris OConnor“Why what, little dove?” he asked and she pushed against his chest, as though to put some distance. When he wouldn’t let her pull away, she sighed.

“Why do we have to go upstairs?”

“I did promise you a birthday spanking, and unless you want that to take place in full view of the club…” He laughed when she pulled away and frantically shook her head. “I thought not, so I secured us a room upstairs. It should be empty and clean by now.”

Releasing her, he stepped away and waited. The way she worried her bottom lip with her teeth again made his balls tighten in need, and Lukas shifted his weight to gain some relief. What he wanted, needed, was to have this delightful bundle of curves bent over one of the tables in the office themed playroom he’d reserved with him balls deep in her sweet pussy, but he was beginning to realize that may well not happen. Not if he allowed her to overthink this.

“Why me?” she finally asked. “I heard what Lance said, and I’ve seen you at your flat. I mean, I’m not your usual sort of woman.” When he gave a short laugh and raised an eyebrow at her, she blushed the most delightful shade of crimson.

“So that’s what Lauren meant by that neighbor, then? Ms. Page, have you been watching me per chance?”

He winked at her when he uttered those words, and if it was possible, her blush deepened. Her breasts rose and fell with her rapid breathing, and Lukas found himself wishing the corset would give up the fight to contain that bounty. Noble intentions be fucked. If she was willing, he would indeed fuck her tonight, and damn the possible consequences.

“And what type of woman do you think I go for, my sweet little dove? Do enlighten me.”

“It doesn’t matter. Forget I said that. Let’s just get this over with.”

She surprised him again by her immediate turn around and the way she all but ran to the stairs. Or as much as a woman could run in heels. To his certain knowledge he had never seen her in heels before, and while the strappy sandals she wore were by no means as high as most women in his acquaintance, they still gave her a fair amount of trouble. They also emphasized the length and shape of her pins, and Lukas amused himself with the view she provided, as she climbed the stairs in front of him.

He fell back on purpose as that gave him the perfect view up her tiny skirt. The flashes of purple lace he glimpsed covering her pussy only served to make him harder. They also confirmed what he already knew. His little dove was turned on, the tiny crotch of her thong soaked through with her arousal. She paused at the top of the stairs, seemingly unsure of which way to go, and the self-conscious way in which she pulled at the hem of her skirt made him grin. It also made him want to wrap her up and take care of her, and he didn’t have the heart to tell her that she had given him a most satisfactory peep show on her way up the stairs.

He chose not to ponder on the tender feelings that made his chest feel tight, and instead nodded his head in the direction he wanted her to take. He hid his grin when she took some tentative steps and promptly stopped as the first viewing window came into view.

All the rooms on this level afforded on lookers a view inside if their occupants so chose and the first room showed none other than Lauren and Jake engaged in having sex.

Their position so mirrored his own fantasies of doing the dirty with Jacqui that he had to reach into his jeans to adjust himself. Not that Jacqui noticed. She was too busy inching toward the window. Naked as the day she was born, Lauren was bent over the desk, hands cuffed behind her back, legs spread apart with a bar, rendering her completely helpless. An equally naked Jake was pumping into her cunt from behind. The desk shook with the force of their coupling, and while the room was sound proof, Jacqui clearly didn’t need the oral stimuli. He certainly didn’t. His imagination worked just fine and an unexpected stab of jealousy assaulted his gut out of nowhere.

While he didn’t envy Jake his Lauren, he did cosset their connection. There was something to be said for having your own woman submit to you so sweetly. To have that right to top her whichever way you chose to, secure in the knowledge that she trusted you implicitly, and gave her gift of submission freely. Not out of idle curiosity, or to simply scratch an itch, but, because she too, needed this.

Frowning at his thought processes, he placed his hand in the small of Jacqui’s back and gently nudged her closer to the window.

“Go, on, have a closer look. They can’t see you, and besides they like to be watched.”

Even to his own ears his voice came out hoarse, not least because he’d spotted the butt plug in Lauren’s ass. Damn it all to hell and back. Anal play was one of Lukas’s firm favorites. It was also on Jacqui’s soft limits, and thus off limits for now, but he sure as fuck hoped he got the chance to introduce her to it.

Judging by her reaction as they watched Jake’s interaction with Lauren, she was as turned on he was by what they were seeing. Jacqui’s cheeks flushed. She gasped for breath, and put one hand on the glass in a seeming effort to support herself.

Going on instinct and the very real need to touch her, Lukas stepped up behind her. Putting his hand over hers on the glass, he grasped her hip with his free hand, and kicking her legs apart with his foot, pulled her flush against him. There was no way on Earth she would miss his raging boner, and, sure enough, another one of those cock hardening groans came from her.

Lukas brought one of his thighs up and between her legs, and it was his turn to groan, as the wet heat of her pussy seared his thigh even through their combined clothing.

“Naughty girl, you’re soaked through.”

Kissing Bandits Interview: Liz Lazarus

VBT_TourBanner_FreeOfMaliceKB: Welcome to Kissing Bandits Blog! Tell us a little bit about yourself!

MediaKit_AuthorPhoto_FreeOfMaliceI’m the author of “Free of Malice,” a psychological, legal thriller loosely based on my personal experience and a series of ‘what if’ questions that trace the after effects of a foiled attack; a woman healing, and grappling with the legal system to acknowledge her right to self-defense.

I was born in Valdosta, Georgia, graduated from Georgia Tech with an engineering degree and the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern with an MBA in their executive master’s program. I spent most of my career at General Electric’s Healthcare division and am currently a Managing Director at a strategic planning consulting firm in addition to being an author.

Free of Malice is my debut novel, set in Atlanta, and supplemented by extensive research with both therapists and criminal defense attorneys. I currently live in Brookhaven, GA, with my fiancé, Richard, and our very spoiled orange tabby, Buckwheat.

MediaKit_BookCover_FreeOfMaliceKB: Tell us a little bit about your most recent release.

Laura Holland awakes in the middle of the night to see a stranger standing in her bedroom doorway. She manages to defend herself from the would-be rapist, though he threatens to return as he retreats. Traumatized with recurring nightmares, Laura seeks therapy and is exposed to a unique treatment called EMDR. She also seeks self-protection—buying a gun against the wishes of her husband. When Laura learns she could have gone to prison had she shot her fleeing assailant, she decides to write a hypothetical legal case using the details of that night. She enlists the help of a criminal defense lawyer, Thomas Bennett, who proves to be well versed in the justice system but has an uncanny resemblance to her attacker. As the two work together to develop the story, Laura’s discomfort escalates, particularly when Thomas seems to know more about that night than he should. Reality and fiction soon merge as her real life drama begins to mirror the fiction she’s trying to create.

KB: Pick out one of the best lines in your novel. What do you love about it?

He sounded sincere. But there was this little nagging voice inside of me–aren’t most psychopaths also charmers?

I love this line because it embodies Laura’s inner turmoil in the novel. She wants to trust Thomas – he sounded sincere – but she doesn’t know if she can. What makes matters worse is she doesn’t know if she can trust herself. Her compass, the ability to distinguish reality from fantasy, has been completely upended since the attack. The sixth sense that she ignored that fateful night is now triggering all the time so she can’t rely on herself to figure out what is real.

KB: What are your top three guilty pleasures?

Watching Dr. Phil, eating potato chips and snuggling with my cat.

KB: Which of your characters do you connect with the most and why?

Like Laura, I went to Georgia Tech for an engineering degree, though I graduated. Laura transferred to the University of Georgia for a journalism degree. Also like Laura, I live in Atlanta, have an older sister and lost my dad to a heart attack. I suppose all writers have portions of ourselves in the characters we portray, which makes us vulnerable but was the only way I knew to tell the story and be authentic.

KB: Describe how you create characters.

The young, black lawyer character in my book is loosely based on my best friend from college, Thomas Barnette. We met our first day at Georgia Tech when we both got lost trying to find the civil engineering building and we’ve been close ever since. Back then, I had no idea that Thomas was such a talented signer—he kept that part of his life hidden. One day after we had graduated, he played a CD for me in his car and the man’s voice was amazing, kind of a Seal meets U2. I literally didn’t believe it was Thomas so he had to sing to me to prove it. From that day on, we talked about producing a music CD. Ironically, right after I took my leave of absence from work to write my book, a check arrived for some salary I had deferred and it was the exact amount we needed for the CD.

Adbiblio AdIn my novel, the lawyer character takes the stage at Eddie’s Attic, one of the many Atlanta locations that I feature. Here, readers can either pull out their QR app and hear the real Thomas singing Let Me Breathe or go to my website, www.freeofmalice.com and hear it online. To me, it adds another dimension to the book, to hear the character’s voice. Thomas also sang at my launch party and we are planning a few joint events throughout the year.

KB: What is something nobody would guess about you?

Mom with book1My age – thanks to great genes from my mom and staying out of the sun, I look much younger than I am.  Thanks, mom!

Here she is with an advance reader copy of “Free of Malice” – turning 90 years old this year!

Excerpt:

Excerpt Two:

We looked at each other for a moment. Then he propped himself up on his elbow and said softly, “Laura, I feel so helpless. I know it’s only been a month, but…”

He hesitated.

“What?” I asked.

“It’s just as bad as that first night. After it happened. Look, I want to make you feel safe again, but I don’t know how.”

He rubbed his eyes and looked away. I waited, staring at him.

What isn’t he saying?

“I know you don’t want to see a therapist, but seeing someone doesn’t mean you’re crazy. Therapists don’t treat just crazy people. They help people who have been through traumas and you have. Hell, no one even has to know.”

He paused for a second.

“Don’t be mad at me, but yesterday I made an appointment for you. I was going to talk to you about it in the morning if you had another bad dream. I found a woman who is downtown by my office. She’s been practicing for about twenty years, got her doctorate from Emory and comes with really good patient reviews.”

He looked for my reaction and continued. “I made the appointment for you at 4:00 so we can go to dinner afterward. You know what you always say. You’ll try anything once, right?”

Kissing Bandits Blitz: The Congressman’s Wife by Charlene Keel

The Congressman’s Wife by Charlene Keel

GENRE: Contemporary Romance

MBB_TourBanner_TheCongressmansWife

BLURB:

All Eden Bancroft has ever been to her high-profile politician husband is a trophy wife, born and bred for the part. She believes she has no choice but to play it—until she meets a talented chef and restaurant heir who makes her feel loved for herself alone. The more her husband uses and belittles her, the more deeply Eden falls for Kaleb. Even with Mitchell’s congressional campaign in full swing, the lovers manage to find brief stolen moments together. When her husband is wounded by a bullet from a disgruntled lobbyist, Eden must stay by his side. What she learns can set her free, if she has the courage to take a stand.

Excerpt: Love at First Sight

This was an important night and Eden was at her best.  Her makeup was flawless and she’d pulled her honey-blonde hair up, letting it cascade down her back in a waterfall of curls. Her Norma Kamali gown, a dark emerald green that made her eyes sparkle, clung to her body and defined every curve.

Mitchell took her elbow and steered her towards the entrance to the ballroom, and the photographers followed them inside.  They had missed cocktails, partly because Mitchell wanted them to make an entrance, but mostly because he didn’t want her to have access to freely flowing liquor so soon after they’d had a fight.  The row they’d had earlier had been a big one.

MediaKit_BookCover_TheCongressmansWifeHe didn’t like it when she told him he was getting ahead of himself.  As soon as he’d decided to run for congress, he’d started spending, running up the balance on their credit cards.  There was no guarantee he’d win, she’d argued, even though he was well known on the political scene.  His family had owned a few dozen acres in this part of Long Island for over a hundred years, and his father had been a state Supreme Court judge.  Mitchell was convinced that, along with his mayoral record, it was enough to guarantee him a seat in congress.

The fight tonight had started when she’d reminded him that if the dinner didn’t go well, his campaign would be over before it got started.  This was their first formal fundraiser.  At five hundred dollars a plate, she was worried they wouldn’t meet their goal.

Their argument had been pointless—like most of them.  When he had his mind set on something, Mitchell didn’t want to hear that his scheme of the moment was imperfect, and he especially didn’t like being told it wasn’t smart to spend money they didn’t have.  They both had ample designer wardrobes, but he had insisted on the expensive gown for Eden and a new tuxedo for himself.  The limo had been his campaign manager’s idea and she thought it ridiculous.  Mitchell, however, had been delighted.

All she had been able to think of as she got dressed was that their credit cards were almost maxed out—again.  Whether he won the election or not, she would have to get a second job if she didn’t want him to ask his mother to pay them down—again.  His law practice, which could have been successful if he would stay focused on it, was suffering because of all the time he was putting into the campaign.

Mitchell didn’t cope well with any kind of disappointment and if tonight was a washout, he would be impossible.  She was so tired of taking care of him, doing everything for him, especially the constant, incessant ego stroking he required.

As they walked into the Ocean Club, appreciative murmurs swept through the crowd—most of the comments she’d heard before.  Mitchell and Eden Bancroft were the glamorous, golden couple—beautiful, bright, young, sophisticated and well-connected pillars of the community.  Suddenly, a new insight dawned on her.

Except for his height Mitchell was completely unremarkable.  Having her at his side transformed him into a mysterious, even sexy man.  To look as ordinary as he did and still get a woman like Eden made him sexy.  This unexpected epiphany delighted her.  Laughter bubbled up in her throat as she flashed her million-dollar smile.

That’s when Kaleb saw her.  He had gone out to the dining room to consult with the maître d’ and as he started back to the kitchen, he heard the full, rich sound of her laughter.  He’d turned to see where it was coming from and at that moment, for him, time stopped.  It was as if every moving part of the universe froze in a weird kind of suspended animation.  For a moment he could hardly breathe.  He couldn’t take his eyes off her.

She was the most beautiful woman he had ever seen.  Her dress was emerald green, slightly darker than her eyes, and her just-right tan accented her soft, blonde hair.  It looked soft anyway, and her skin looked dewy and inviting.  Kaleb stared at her in awe.  Doris, a waitress who had worked all day at her regular job and was doing the gig tonight to pick up a few extra bucks, followed his gaze to the amazing woman.

“Good choice, kid,” she said, heading into to the kitchen.  “She’s hot.”

Kissing Bandits Interviews Dorothy Callahan

KB: Welcome to Kissing Bandits Blog! Tell us a little bit about yourself!

author photoDC: Hi, Michele, and thank you for the invitation! My name is Dorothy Callahan, and I’ve been writing since high school (we’ll pretend that was only 5 years ago, despite all the reunions my graduating class has had) but only published since 2013. I love “love” and all of the nuances involved with it. I don’t limit myself to one genre, since the characters who demand I tell their stories don’t care if it’s a time travel, paranormal, contemporary or even historical. I write what the story (and characters) demand. Basically, I’m a slave to imaginary people.

I adore kittens and get my “fix” by fostering for our local humane society. My husband and I have fostered 16 litters since we moved here, but I’ve been fostering since 2001. We built a pen in the finished basement complete with yellow walls, window dressings, and multiple cat trees and posts. I love knowing that my efforts not only save lives, but also keep these babies from growing up wild and contributing to the feral cat population.

I also started a book group called READ AND RESCUE, where one can find animal-loving authors who support their own favorite shelters and causes. Every book on the site earns money for animals!

KB: Tell us a little bit about your most recent release.

DC: I’m going to thank our temporary Fed Ex guy for my latest release. He was seriously the hottest guy I’ve ever met. (Have you ever met a man who made you blush? As as adult? When you’re happily married to your best friend?) I took one look at him and thought “HOLLYWOOD ACTION HERO,” so I set about creating this new character’s and conflict.

TCASAMZ ecover 72dpi-1500x2000In “To Catch a Star,” Rex Ronin gets shipwrecked in Hawaii when his filming session turns into a tragedy. He washes ashore on a wildlife reserve where his agent wants him to build a resort in his name. But the scarred woman who saves him is so unlike his life of glamour that he’s immediately reminded of his life back home in Idaho. If Rex wants to ensure his fame and forturne, he’ll need to destroy Tori. And if Tori falls in love with Rex, he’ll want her to live in society, where everyone will notice the scars that drove her to work in solitude.

Was their shipwrecked encounter a disaster, or their destiny?

KB: What was your defining moment as a writer?

DC: I’d have to say it was the moment I opened up the email from Crimson Romance stating they wanted to buy my manuscript. I felt my jaw drop open, and even though I read it and reread it, the words hadn’t changed. They really wanted it! I kept saying, “Oh, my God. Oh, my God,” until my husband came up and asked if everything was okay. And then every word I ever knew spilled out of my mouth, and I started screaming that they wanted to buy my story, and suddenly I had to call my mom, and his mom, and my friend, and then another friend, and another and another and….

It exhausts and invigorates me every time I think on it.

KB: Pick out one of the best lines in your novel. What do you love about it?

DC: “I can’t compete with the world, Rex.”

“No, Tori, it’s the world who can’t compete with you.”

Tori is so self-conscious about the scars on her face from the car accident that she can’t believe anyone can see past them. But Rex has been so intrigued with her white-blue eyes, her gentle disposition, and her unity with nature that he doesn’t see them and has fallen in love. But how can the hottest man in America love a woman as scarred as Tori?

KB: What are your top three guilty pleasures?

DC: Chocolate, chocolate, and chocolate. No, that’s not exactly right.

Chocolate, cats, and chocolate. Um, close… but no cigar.

Chocolate, cats, and shopping for antiques. Well, I don’t need to buy any, actually, just window shop. Does window shopping count as guilt, since it’s free?

Cats, reading, and chocolate? Maybe.

Cats, writing, and chocolate ice cream.

Writing, chocolate ice cream, and surrounding myself with cats.

DING DING DING! We have a winner!

KB: What kinds of male characters do you prefer to write?

DC: I’m a big fan of the “Best Friend” archetype. I love my men to be supportive and am so lucky to have that in my personal life. I love “Warriors” as an archetype, too, so most of my heroes don’t mind kicking a little butt when necessary. Is that a Warrior trait, or simply being a Best Friend? They’re protective and strong and determined. They love their women unequivocally and always want to do what’s best for them and make them happy.  In my world, THAT’S a good man!

KB: What is something nobody would guess about you?

DC: I love shocking people with the fact that I both have and can play bagpipes. The next story I’m working on has a master piper as the hero. (He’s swoon-worthy, ladies, I promise!)

Thank you so much for inviting me to your blog. It’s been fun hanging out with you and I hope we can catch up sometime! If you want to find me, I’m at www.dorothycallahan.com, on Facebook at Dorothy Callahan Author, and also Pinterest at: callahan3768.  Hope to see you soon!

Kissing Bandits Welcomes Jessica Calla #interview #newadult

The Interview: Jessica Calla

KB Full Disclosure: I first ran across Jessica Calla by chance. She had entered a contest I was judging. I don’t see names or anything, but I fell in love with She Laughs in Pink, and it stuck with me. I was happy to see it in print (or digital.)

KB: Welcome to Kissing Bandits Blog! Tell us a little bit about yourself!

JC: Thank you for having me!

I’m Jess. I’m born, raised, and currently live in New Jersey. I spend my days working as a lawyer and my nights writing romance and women’s fiction. I have two sons, a husband, a dog, and a beat up old minivan without air conditioning. My favorite famous people are The Rock, Beyonce, and Eddie Vedder. If the three of them were to read this interview, I think The Rock would be the most likely to buy me a new car with working air. I’m addicted to caffeine and sugar, hugs from my kids, Twitter (@jess_calla!), and romance novels.

KB: Tell us a little bit about your most recent release.

SLIP_eBOOKJC: My most recent release SHE LAUGHS IN PINK, is the first in the Sheridan Hall new adult romance series. It centers around freshmen Juliet and Chase, who meet in the dorm on move-in day at the fictional New Jersey University. Juliet followed her best friend and crush from home, Ben, to NJU in an attempt to make him love her. But then she meets Ben’s roommate Chase, an artist and city boy on scholarship, and quickly figures out that he’s kind of awesome, too. Lots of other stuff happens–friendships are made, people are lost, past issues re-emerge, love (and sex) happens. I think SHE LAUGHS… has all of the elements that make new adult such a great genre, and I’m really proud of it.

KB: Tell us about your first kiss.

JC: My first kiss happened in sixth grade at a sleepover. Here’s the scenario: One of my friends had a finished basement and really liberal parents who let the boys come hang out until midnight. While us girls had them there, we organized a game of “spin the bottle.” Except we, being twelve-year-olds, had no bottle. We used a toothbrush holder instead and played “spin the toothbrush.” My first spin landed on Mark. I was fine with Mark. He had freckles and cool hair. With all of our friends watching, Mark and I leaned over the toothbrush holder and our lips met in the middle of the circle. His were cold and softer than I’d imagined boys lips could be. I can still remember exactly how they felt. I decided kissing was gross, and didn’t do it again until high school.

KB: Share an excerpt of a first kiss in one of your novels.

JC: This is from THE LOVE SQUARE:

The Love Square front cover“Are you going to kiss me?” Her tone didn’t reveal whether or not she wanted him to. She was simply asking.

They watched each other until Alex leaned closer to Jenna’s face and traced her lips with his thumb. This time, no plane flew overhead and no memories or fears entered his mind to stop him. He carefully brushed his lips against hers and moved away.

She reacted, wiggling closer to him, and he touched her chin and tilted her face to his. When her lips turned up into a grin, he kissed her full-on, as softly as he could manage.

It took every ounce of self-control to resist moving his hands down her body to pull her closer. But while his body was on high alert, her gentle kiss, like her friendship, calmed him in that way Jenna always did. With her, he had a purpose and someone to share his life. He had a family. He was an adult with dreams and goals instead of the hyped-up, crazy kid he often felt like on the inside.

Soon, the gentle kiss morphed into something more. He couldn’t lose control. Not with Jenna. So he slowed down and tried to imprint the feeling of kissing her, then he pulled away.

“Now this night has been perfect,” he whispered in her ear as he held her close. “Go to sleep, Jen.”

KB: What is something nobody would guess about you?

JC: Something that nobody would guess about me is that I used to be a dancer. From the age of five through college and beyond, I danced ballet, tap, and jazz. In high school I taught preschoolers and worked on the business side of the studio. I spent all of my free time at the dance school. Most of the stories I write have a dancer. In THE LOVE SQUARE, Jenna is a ballroom dancer and teaches a charity class for underprivileged girls. In SHE LAUGHS IN PINK, Juliet is a ballerina. She’s good and loves it, but knows she’ll never go pro. Dancing is a big part of both Jenna and Juliet’s stories, and it’s lifted right from my past experiences and feelings.

Excerpt from Chapter One:

Laying my head back against the black leather seats of the Jag and gazing ahead, I lifted a finger and touched my lips that were swollen from his kiss. The weariness of the past few weeks was beginning to take over, weighing on my eyelids as they began to droop. I should have been reassured by the man sitting next to me.

I shifted in my seat so I could watch him as he drove on. He was a force that even nature had no hold over. There was an urge to reach out and cling to his broad bicep, a need to feel the security of his physical strength, aching somewhere deep inside of me.

We didn’t speak as he pressed all his weight onto the accelerator, urging the car until it was over the speed limit. I half expected the shine of blue lights to fill the inside of the car, with sirens blaring around us. But they didn’t. Of course they didn’t. Even if a marked car was to pass, I doubted Vance Ellery would slow down, and I had even less that the police would attempt to pull him over. I suspected that the personal phone number of every single high-ranking officer in the country, was tucked away in a neat Rolodex on Vance’s desk or even stored in the memory bank of his mobile phone for easy access.

The silence should have been soothing. I should have been able to let my lashes flutter against my cheeks, and slip into a relaxing slumber. Instead the lack of conversation added to the tension that built behind my eyes. I closed them, hoping that soon I would drift off into a deep sleep, where I would be surrounded by falling flowers, rainbows, and sunlight. Ha! If only I was deserving of such luck. There were no pleasant dreams awaiting me after the sandman visited. Only nightmares wanted to be part of my night. They tormented me, bringing memories that I’d tried to bury and forget. They hounded the darkness, giving me nothing but misery and pain and suffering. It was as though all my sins from a previous life had been rolled over into this one.

If the visions of his face, the sound of his voice had been the only elements of my slumber, then I might have been willing to slip away and let the desperation of rest take me to the shadowed places I dreaded. My soul was destined for torture though. I was to be punished for his crime.

The mere suggestion of sleep forced my blood to pulsate until it was the only thing I could hear, throbbing in my temples. The searing pain of anxiety and panic stabbed at my chest, pins pricking my skin, as I let my eyelids fall. A shudder fell down my spine, waking me from the light doze I’d stumbled into.

Breathe in, breathe out. In with the good, out with the bad. In through the nose, out through the mouth. Breathe in, breathe out. A mantra, taught to me by a yoga instructor years before hell had entered my life, repeated over and over in my mind. I inhaled the cool air through my nasal passages, allowing it to slip down into my pain-filled lungs, exhaling all the bad out of my mouth in a gigantic whoosh.

Ahead, the roads were empty, weaving out of the village and headed towards Richart Courts, the hotel that was to be my sanctuary for the next couple of days before I had to face the next challenge. New York City.

How anyone could expect me to go back there was beyond belief. The only logical explanation for their plans for my future was that facing New York was the lesser of the two evils that haunted me, threatening to rip away the seams that had begun to fray around my already tattered edges.

Four Letter Words is the second, and final, part to Paige’s story. To celebrate its re-release, the first part of the Words Duet has been reduced to 99p / 99c!

#KissingBandits Welcomes Noelle Rahn-Johnson

Noelle Rahn-Johnson: The Interview

KB: Welcome to Kissing Bandits Blog! Tell us a little bit about yourself!

NRJ: I’m 44, happily married to a great guy since August of 1992. (Yes, I’m happily married, Yes, thank you for telling me I’m beautiful, and no I will not have your babies. LOL) I have 4 kids, 2 dogs and a cat. We also have 4 baby mallard ducklings here that we will release in the late summer, or when ever they want to leave. I’ve been writing since August of 2014 and I currently have 3 books out and published.

Pieces BannerKB: Tell us a little bit about your most recent release.

NRJ: The most recent is the third book in the ‘Pieces’ trilogy. That was released in March of this year. In Pieces, Shattered Pieces and Broken Pieces are the books in that trilogy. Broken Pieces clears up everything and wraps up the ending nicely with a HEA.

KB: What are your top three guilty pleasures?

NRJ: Chocolate, sweet strawberries, reading a book and it brings out the raw emotions from the characters and makes me feel it too.

KB: Which of your characters do you connect with the most and why?

NRJ: Paige Marie Masterson, main character from IN PIECES. 99% of her feelings in the book are mine. How I was feeling, reacting or what was going on in my life at the time. The events that happen in the book are either something that happened to me, or someone I knew. There are a few events that did not happen, the bear scene, for one. I think I would have tripped and fell, peed my pants, broke my ankle and been mauled to death in that one.

KB: Who or what has had the biggest influence on your writing?

NRJ: My Dad. He’s been gone since November 2007. I write for him and his love of books. I just had an idea of a story one day and wrote it down. It went from there. I have dedicated all 3 books so far to him, along with other people in my life.

KB: What is the biggest risk you’ve taken in your writing?

NRJ: Putting my real emotions and reactions in the book and having that character have the same issues as me. It’s a form or ‘releasing the demons’ inside, if you will, and letting go of the past.

KB: What is something nobody would guess about you?

NRJ: I hate being in a room full of people, I panic.

Read these titles by Noelle Rahn-Johnson: In Pieces, Shattered Pieces, Broken Pieces- all in the Pieces Trilogy. I also am writing a book caller ‘Returning for Ryder’. Releasing, hopefully, July 2016
